According to The Lisa Projects, â€Å"Eating disorders are costly, many people have trouble working with their insurance company. Some even have no insurance to support those in need of treatment.† It is also mentions â€Å" Some insurance companies more likely to pay for physical illnesses than mental illnesses.† [7]. According to International Journal of Eating Disorder, â€Å" Unlike schizophrenia, and other mental illnesses, eating disorders as to bulimia and anorexia are not often covered by health insurance. Insurance companies regularly deny patients coverage, which is expensive and long term as many to five years. â€Å"[8] In the article The High Cost of Starving statistics show â€Å"One day of inpatient care runs $1,700.† It also adds that according to Toles, â€Å"The cost of treatment could cripple a family. Families would pay up to $20,000 to get into the facilities and for some individuals and families that money represents life savings.† [8] Fragmented Families Any family who has a relative with an eating disorder also has to suffer the consequences with the patient. One of these factors includes higher health care cost and a dysfunctional family in the long term this can impact the patient negatively.
